Frequently Asked Questions
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions take place online by secure video call.
You will need a private space where you feel able to talk freely, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.
I currently work with adults based in the UK.
How often would we meet?
Counselling usually works best when sessions take place weekly, especially at the beginning.
A regular weekly time can help create steadiness and continuity in the work.
We can talk about what feels realistic and useful for you during the introductory chat.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number of sessions.
Some people come to counselling with something specific they want to explore. Others want longer-term space to understand deeper patterns in their relationships, self-worth, boundaries, or sense of self.
We can review the work together as we go.
I do not offer quick fixes or promise change within a set number of sessions. The work is gentle, honest, and paced around what feels useful and possible.
What can I bring to counselling?
You do not need to have the “right” problem or the perfect words.
You might come because you feel anxious, burnt out, stuck, over-responsible, resentful, disconnected from yourself, or tired of repeating the same relationship patterns.
You might know exactly what you want to talk about, or you might simply know that something has started to feel too costly to keep carrying alone.
Will you give me advice?
No. Counselling is not advice-giving, coaching, or being told what to do.
Instead, we work together to understand what is happening, how old patterns may be showing up, and what other options might become possible.
The aim is not to force you into being someone else. It is to help you build awareness, self-trust, and agency in a way that fits your real life.
What if I need to cancel?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session.
Sessions cancelled with less notice may still be charged.
Is counselling confidential?
Counselling is confidential, with some important legal and ethical limits.
I may need to share information if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, if I am legally required to do so, or as part of professional supervision. Supervision is a standard part of ethical counselling practice and does not involve sharing unnecessary identifying details.
We will talk through confidentiality clearly before we begin working together.
Can I contact you in a crisis?
Healing Roots is not a crisis service, and I do not provide emergency support between sessions.
If you are in immediate danger or feel unable to keep yourself safe, please call 999, go to A&E, or contact a crisis service such as Samaritans on 116 123.
Do you work with couples, families, or children?
I currently offer individual counselling for adults in the UK.
I do not offer couples counselling, family therapy, child therapy, or crisis support.
