Online counselling for people-pleasing, burnout, and relationship patterns
You’ve spent years being the reliable one.
Now you’re running on empty.
Everyone thinks you’re coping. But if you dig a little way under the surface, it’s a different story.
Healing Roots offers online counselling for thoughtful, capable adults in Hampshire and across the UK who are tired of saying yes, holding everything together, and abandoning themselves to keep the peace.
Does this sound familiar?
You’re the one people rely on.
You get things done. You remember the details. You volunteer before you have had time to think. You say yes before you realise you wanted to say no. From the outside, you may look organised, capable, friendly, and fine.
Inside, you may feel exhausted, resentful, anxious – or strangely empty. You might know your patterns well enough to explain them, but still find yourself repeating them. You might keep promising yourself you will slow down, speak up, stop over-explaining, set the boundary, or finally stop caring so much what everyone else thinks.
And then real life happens.
The boundary dissolves. The guilt kicks in. Someone needs something. You step back into the old role before you have even noticed you are doing it.
If that feels familiar, you are not alone – and you are not broken.
You’re not broken.
You’ve adapted.
But your adaptations have stopped working as well as they used to.
People-pleasing, perfectionism, and over-responsibility often begin as safe ways to manage relationships, avoid conflict, or be accepted. These patterns may have worked for a long time. They may even have helped you become capable, thoughtful, and resilient.
But the scaffolding that once supported you can start to feel like a cage.
You may be starting to realise that the cost of keeping everyone else comfortable has been leaving yourself behind.
Counselling offers space to understand how those patterns began, how they still show up in your everyday life, and what might become possible when you no longer have to abandon yourself to belong.
How counselling can help
From awareness to options.
Perhaps you may already understand some of the reasons you are like this.
Maybe you have read the books, listened to the podcasts, journalled, talked to friends, tried to set boundaries, changed jobs, ended relationships, or promised yourself that next time will be different.
Awareness matters. But awareness on its own does not always lead to change.
In counselling, we explore how your patterns began, how they show up now, and what other options may become possible.
Change is not about trying to be someone else. It is about understanding the patterns that shaped you, developing more self-trust, and finding options that feel possible in real life – one small step at a time.
A space where being fine is not required
Healing Roots is for people who are tired of performing OKness, competence, and calm while quietly running on empty.
It is your space to explore what shaped you, why old patterns still have such a hold, and what might become possible when you no longer have to abandon yourself to belong.
My work is warm, thoughtful, and relational. It is informed by Transactional Analysis, which means we may look at the old messages, roles, and patterns that still shape your adult life. But you do not need to know any theory. The work is about helping you feel understood, make sense of yourself, and begin to live with more choice.
This work matters to me because I know how easy it can be to become highly adapted to other people’s needs and lose sight of your own.

Who this is for
This may be for you if
You are tired of being the reliable one.
You find it hard to say no without guilt.
You overthink conversations, decisions, or other people’s reactions.
You feel responsible for keeping the peace.
You look capable, but inside you feel anxious, flat, resentful, or exhausted.
You understand your patterns, but still feel stuck in them.
You are beginning to wonder who you are when you are not pleasing, fixing, achieving, or managing.
What this work is – and what it is not
Counselling is not about quick fixes, advice-giving, or being told how to live your life.
I will not give you a six-step formula for becoming a different person. I will not ask you to force confidence, perform assertiveness, or pretend that change is easy.
Instead, we work gently and honestly with what is already there: your history, your relationships, your patterns, your needs, your fears, your hopes, and the parts of you that may not yet feel allowed to want anything different.
Healing Roots is not a crisis service, and I currently offer individual counselling only. I do not offer couples or family therapy.
